 Abbey Current Account - "Preferred In Credit Rate" option Abbey quote a headline rate of 8% AER interest on balances up to ?2500 for 12 months. However they are not being open about their conditions, which are NOT disclosed on their website or, in my experience, in branch. After complaining that I received interest credited monthly at the annual rate of only 2% I was advised that "This promotional rate of 8% AER is payable on the 1st of the month on the anniversary of opening the account." So if you close the account before 12 months (or fail to comply with any other condition at any time) you will receive only 2%. Surely this undisclosed condition is improper? Contrast this with Alliance & Leicester who pay interest every month at the rate of 8.5% pa.    |

Are 2am's comments above about the Abbey account correct? If so, which is the best current account to have which pays a high rate of monthly interest? I already have an A&L Premier Direct account, but would like a second current account. I understand that I cannot have two A&L Premier Direct accounts. Thanks R |
