On Aug 3rd the flat upstairs flooded my bedroom ceiling (about 1.5m hole). It took until yesterday (23rd Nov) for repairs to finally be completed.
Contractors did not send any reports re drying status to Halifax until I chased them up and Halifax sat on the builders quote for repairs for 4 weeks until I queried the lack of progress.
Even with up to a very generous 4 weeks drying out time considered, it should not have taken 16 weeks to right the damage. Due to the delays/inaction on the part of Halifax and the contractors that they appointed, I actually had to appoint my own builders.
I have formally complained to them because of their lack of action and they have written off the ?75 excess, kept my no claims bonus, and offered me ?250 compensation in acknowledgement that they have not treated me well.
I have asked for their offer in writing but am very tempted to reject this initial offer and try and stiff them for more. Is this reasonable? Does anyone know what my next course of actions could be regarding taking this further? Basically, it is a one bedroom flat and I have been sick to death of sleeping on a mattress in the living room for 16 weeks and I want to make Halifax pay!!
